Basic Information
Here's the info you need to know up front to save us time.
You must be 21 years of age, or older.
No smokers. There is no tobacco use allowed on the property at all.
420 is allowed only outside the house.
That said, vaping (of anything) is allowed anywhere, as long as it's not stinky and nobody minds.
This isn't a party house, but it's definitely not a sober house either. We take substance abuse very seriously, but this is not a good environment for anyone who needs support in their sobriety or to stay clean.
No free-roaming pets.
This is not a vacation house, an AirBnB, a flophouse, or a short-term stay place. Most non-Captain people stay more than a year. Record? 7.
If you're "just looking for a room," give us a miss!
You must be able to pass a background and credit check.
Please be someone with at least some desire to socialize a bit. There's no forced family fun, but it's pointless to live here if you're asocial.
Okay, now that that's driven away the scallywags...
The Ship, despite the name, is just a plain ol' house, so-named because it's a kind of battleship grey color.
We're in our 14th year of operation; the Ship was officially launched March 1, 2010.
The Ship is not a profit-seeking venture; it is not a business.
Our "harbor" is Harvard Heights, a neighborhood in Los Angeles located about 2 miles west of Downtown LA, at the 10 and Western.
About 60 people of all backgrounds and walks-of-life have lived here in that time.
The Ship can have as many as 10 spots (for people); there is always at least one shared room. No, it doesn't feel crowded.
When the house is full of good people, great stuff happens. Cooperation, collaboration, conjuration, and camaraderie.
Rooms are completely unfurnished (though there is often some extra stuff around to use).
Money Stuff
As of early 2023, the costs for a spot range from $650 (for a share) to $1100 for the large room with the large closet.
We operate on a month-to-month basis, with our "month" beginning on the 19th. Moves not on the 19th are prorated to the nearest 19th.
Utilities typically range in the $100/person range.
